The startup capital of the world, is that Stockholm? At least if you rely on the number of co-working spaces there are per capita. The last few years they have also changed in style from mainstream office-spaces to rather trendy design offices and hip cafés and we love it. One of the first ones in the ‘trendy’ category was Coffice at Tjärhovsgatan 5 that started 2009 and since then they have popped out of the ground like little mushrooms. Here’s a list of our favorite ones:
Alma
Sophisticated, clean and sleek: it’s a supercool yet grown up co-working space for work, play, business meetings and culinary experiences in their fancy lunch restaurant. Designed by award winning architecture firm Tham & Videgård in a cool blue-greyish palette, avoiding gimmicks and super trendy design solutions and focusing on solid timeless materials and quality. You’ll find it at Nybrogatan 8.
Helio
In 8 places around Stockholm you can pop in and visit Helio. They provide co-working spaces in a beautiful industrial-chic environment. Choose between open seating-area, get your fixed seat or your very own office-room. Helio also host a bunch of workshops and events which you can take part in -check out their Instagram to know what’s up!
A house
A house is a co-working space and member’s club where solopreneurs and larger corporations work next to each other inside the iconic brutalist building in Stockholm: the former architect school at Östermalmsgatan 26A. When the building was inaugurated in the late 60’s it was brutally criticized and has been voted the ugliest building in Stockholm several times. The style is slowly coming back in fashion, and most importantly the ideas, dialogue and production happening within the walls keep flowing.
Norrsken
A 2400 m2 creative cluster for more than 300 entrepreneurs in Norrmalm, Stockholm. They call it a “one stop shop for social innovation” and are focusing mainly on tech start ups, but everyone is welcome. Check it out at Birger Jarlsgatan 57C or pop by for a lunch at their vegan café Taku Taku.
